ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Former Bayelsa State Governor and National Democratic Congress (NDC) chieftain, Seriake Dickson, has reaffirmed his support for Ibrahim Abdulkarim as Director-General of the party’s National Campaign Council, describing his appointment as an opportunity to empower young Nigerians for leadership.
Dickson said Abdulkarim’s relative lack of experience in holding political office in Nigeria was not a disadvantage but an opportunity to nurture young talents and prepare them for greater responsibilities.
The former governor stated this in a message posted on his official X handle on Thursday, following discussions with some party officials on the inauguration of the NDC National Campaign Council.
According to him, the decision to appoint Abdulkarim reflects the party’s commitment to creating opportunities for young Nigerians to learn, serve, demonstrate their abilities and develop into effective leaders.
“He is young and may not have held political office in Nigeria before. In fact, that is precisely why he has been given this appointment,” Dickson said, adding that Nigerian youths possess the capacity to lead and contribute meaningfully to national development.
He described the NDC as a youth- and women-friendly party committed to representing ordinary Nigerians and building a coalition capable of challenging oppression and working towards a better future for the country.
Dickson disclosed that he had directed all state chairmen and party officials to give Abdulkarim and other members of the National Campaign Council maximum support to enable them to discharge their responsibilities effectively.
He also called on party members, stakeholders, support groups and non-governmental organisations to provide comprehensive support for all NDC candidates, particularly in grassroots mobilisation, election preparations, vote canvassing and the protection of votes cast by Nigerians.
The NDC chieftain urged youths and women to take ownership of the party and its mission, stressing the need for their active participation in its growth and leadership.
He said their involvement was essential to building a people-driven political movement capable of delivering the desired change in Nigeria.
Dickson further acknowledged the interest expressed by party members, leaders and stakeholders in serving on the National Campaign Council, explaining that only its top leadership had so far been inaugurated.
He noted that the party was compiling the membership of various committees, directorates and coordinating teams at the state, local government and ward levels to ensure broad participation in its mobilisation and campaign activities.
The former governor expressed optimism that the ongoing process would provide opportunities for more party members to contribute to the NDC’s electoral preparations and grassroots engagement.
He called on party faithful to unite behind the campaign council and work collectively towards building a political platform that gives Nigerians, particularly youths and women, a meaningful stake in the country’s future.
Dickson therefore called for continued support for the party, declaring: “NDC all the way!”
