ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has formally affirmed Mr. Peter Obi as its presidential flag bearer for the 2027 general election, with former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, announced as his running mate.
Former Bayelsa State Governor and party leader, Seriake Dickson, disclosed this while reflecting on proceedings at the party’s Special National Convention, where delegates unanimously endorsed Obi’s candidacy through a motion and resolution adopted by members.
Dickson described the affirmation as a significant milestone for the party, noting that he was privileged to present the party’s flag to Obi alongside the National Chairman and other leaders of the NDC.
According to him, the endorsement went beyond a routine party exercise, saying it reflected the confidence, trust, and expectations that party members and millions of Nigerians have placed in the NDC as an alternative political platform.
The former governor said the convention reached a high point when Obi, while accepting the nomination, announced Senator Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
He noted that the announcement was greeted with enthusiasm by delegates and party faithful, who viewed the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket as a strong symbol of national unity, inclusiveness, and a shared commitment to transforming Nigeria.
Dickson congratulated both Obi and Kwankwaso on what he described as a historic achievement, assuring them of the full support of the party’s leadership, members, and stakeholders as preparations begin for the 2027 campaign.
He also commended delegates, party officials, and members across the country for their peaceful conduct throughout the primary elections and convention process, describing the exercise as democratic and orderly.
Calling for continued unity within the party, Dickson urged members to remain focused on the ideals upon which the NDC was founded and to work collectively toward offering Nigerians a credible alternative ahead of the next general election.
He expressed optimism that the party would usher in a new era of hope, progress, and national renewal if given the opportunity to govern.
