The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday declared that the 2027 presidential election in the nation’s capital is already a done deal for President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). HireGrant Writers
Wike insisted that the massive infrastructure delivery across the territory’s urban centres and satellite towns under the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ has effectively sealed the opposition’s electoral fate in Abuja.
Speaking during an ongoing inspection tour of major road infrastructure projects, including the Apo-Karshi and Gwarinpa-Kubwa road corridors, the Minister asserted that good governance remains the ultimate barometer of electoral success.
According to him, the Tinubu administration has silenced critics by turning political promises into concrete, verifiable developments that directly affect residents’ lives.
He said, “I can beat my chest, close my eyes, and sleep with my two eyes closed that President Tinubu and APC candidates will win FCT in 2027.”
“If good governance is the barometer to measure whether a government has succeeded or not, then we have nothing to fear,” Wike stated boldly.
The Minister further said, “If residents are saying they want a government that listens, cares, and solves their problems, the Renewed Hope Agenda has delivered exactly that. It is not only listening and caring; it is actively solving their problems.”
Slamming opposition political parties eyeing the capital city ahead of the 2027 general elections, Wike mocked their lack of performance records, noting that voters will no longer be lured by empty rhetoric.
Wike said, “What will those who are coming tell the people? They will tell them stories. But we have not come with stories; we have come with facts, verifiable facts.”
Responding to allegations raised by the Senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, who recently accused the Minister of an attempt to intimidate her and alter her political fate, Wike dismissed the claims with disdain.
The Minister said Senator Kingibe was not being intimidated by anyone, but was instead a victim of her own continuous non-performance and failure to represent FCT residents in the National Assembly.
“Nobody is intimidating her. Rather, she has intimidated herself by not performing. It is her non-performance that is causing her intimidation,” Wike said.
He queried the lawmaker’s scorecard, challenging her to point to tangible legislative interventions or community consultations since she assumed office.
“I speak for Abuja people, and I know they want good representation. You need someone in the Parliament to speak for the people and let the government know their problems,” Wike argued.
“How many times has she gone to the satellite towns to consult with the residents or traditional rulers? How many times has she spoken on the floor of the Senate to highlight the problems facing FCT? How many times has she come up with bills to address Abuja’s challenges?” he said.
Wike said a political reckoning is fast approaching, adding that indigenes and residents now know the difference between effective leadership and non-performance. ReadPolitical News
On the progress of ongoing infrastructure projects, Wike expressed satisfaction with the contractor’s pace, confirming that the long-delayed Apo-Karshi road will be handed over by November after the contract was revoked from previous handlers and re-awarded to SCC.
Similarly, the Gwarinpa-Kubwa road corridor is slated for completion and handover by December.
Wike noted that despite heavy rainfall earlier in the year, work will accelerate as the rains subside in October.
“We promised 10 projects before elections, but from what we are seeing, we are delivering far more,” Wike said, describing the projects as Christmas and New Year gifts to FCT residents.
Addressing outcries over recent demolitions in the Central Business District (CBD), Wike maintained that the FCT Administration will not compromise master plan enforcement or yield to emotional appeals from illegal developers.
Dismissing claims by affected occupiers that no prior notice was served, Wike revealed that discussions and quit notices had been ongoing for over six months.
