ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –   As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has called on Nigerians to remain united and steadfast in the face of current national challenges, urging citizens to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to transform the nation.

In a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau congratulated Nigerians on the milestone and emphasized the need to uphold the values of unity, peace, justice, and tolerance espoused by the nation’s founding fathers.

“Fellow Nigerians, happy Independence Day,” Senator Barau said in his message. “As we celebrate the 65th Independence Anniversary of our beloved country, we must remember the enormous sacrifices made by our founding fathers: Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Ahmadu Bello and Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, among others, and recommit ourselves to the ideals they stood for.”

He acknowledged the country’s present challenges but expressed optimism that Nigeria would emerge stronger. “Yes, at 65, we have some challenges facing us as a country, but we will overcome them. Our country, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, will emerge stronger from its present challenges, by God’s grace,” he added.

Senator Barau commended the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, stating that the benefits are gradually being felt across the country, with notable improvements in the security situation over the past two years.

“Let us continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to actualise his policies and programmes as encapsulated in the Renewed Hope Agenda. He has good intentions for the country. We will get it right,” he urged.

The Deputy Senate President, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to supporting good governance through appropriate legislation that aligns with the administration’s goals.

The Federal Government had earlier declared Wednesday, October 1, a public holiday to commemorate the nation’s Independence Day.
