EPL: He’s very sloppy, and arrogant – Clichy blames Liverpool star after 3-1 loss to Arsenal

Former Manchester City defender, Gael Clichy has blamed Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk following his performance during the Reds’ Premier League 3-1 loss to Arsenal on Sunday.

Clichy said Van Dijk was very sloppy and arrogant at times during the encounter against Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal defeated Jurgen Klopp’s side at Emirates Stadium, thanks to goals from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

However, during the encounter, there was a moment of miscommunication between Van Dijk and Liverpool goalkeeper, Alisson Becker.

Becker completely misjudged his clearance and Martinelli was gifted with an open goal.

“When a team dominates a game like this you are always going to question whether they were that good if Liverpool were that poor. I can’t remember Liverpool playing that poorly,” Clichy told Sky Sports.

“The example is Van Dijk, we are not used to seeing him like this. Very sloppy, confident, and arrogant at times. That challenge for the second goal you don’t expect from someone of his status.”
