ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Office of the President of the Senate has strongly condemned the latest round of baseless accusations made by Mr. Elisha Abbo, the former representative of Adamawa North Senatorial District. Abbo, who was ousted from the Senate following a judicial ruling, has once again sought to blame Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio for his removal, despite publicly retracting similar allegations in 2023.

The Senate President’s office expressed deep concern over Abbo’s repeated attempt to tarnish the reputation of Senator Akpabio, despite previously acknowledging that Akpabio had no involvement in the judicial process that led to his ouster. This was confirmed after a discussion between Abbo and the Senate President in 2023, where Abbo admitted that his earlier accusations were unfounded and premature.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Special Adviser, Media/Publicity and official Spokesperson to the President of the Senate, Rt Hon Eseme Eyiboh made available to Ptecise Post in Abuja on Thursday.

Precise Post recalls that the Court of Appeal had ruled that Abbo was not validly elected as Senator for Adamawa North, and thus, his tenure in the Senate was deemed null and void.

According to the statement, the Senate President, a seasoned lawyer and democrat, holds the independence of the judiciary in the highest regard and would never interfere in such legal proceedings.

Furthermore, reacting to Abbo’s recent claims regarding unpaid benefits, including salaries and allowances, the Sokesperson of the Senate President clarified that all payments are made according to the Senate’s standard procedures and due diligence practices. Any claims that failed to meet legal and procedural requirements were not approved for payment, not due to personal animosity, but because they did not conform to established laws.

The Senate President’s office also reminded the public of Abbo’s troubling past, citing the 2019 incident in which he was caught on video assaulting a female citizen in Abuja, resulting in a court-ordered payment of N50 million in damages. This event, along with his continued public outbursts, casts doubt on Abbo’s credibility and character.

The statement also added that the Senate President remains focused on his duties to build a stronger Nigeria and uphold democratic principles, particularly the independence of the judiciary. The office called on Abbo to accept the legal consequences of his actions, show respect for the rule of law, and work on restoring the trust of his constituents if he hopes to return to public life.
