President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria’s political history would have remained incomplete had he failed to secure victory in the 2023 presidential election.
Speaking on Sunday in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, during the 8th Day Fidau prayer for the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, Tinubu reflected on the pivotal role the revered monarch played in his political journey.
According to Tinubu, the late Awujale not only blessed him but also confidently assured him of success in the election and beyond.
“Our history would not have been completed, carefully and richly, if I failed the last election,” Tinubu stated.
“I was successful because of your support and the blessing of late Awujale. I came to him, he blessed me and said, ‘you will win that election and you will win one more time. Go ahead.’ Today, he is no more. He is gone.”
The President praised Oba Adetona’s unwavering commitment to democracy, his wisdom, courage, and his steadfast support for the June 12 movement, describing him as an icon whose impact on Nigeria’s democratic evolution is immeasurable.
Tinubu also expressed gratitude to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, whom he affectionately called “Okanlomo Eleyi of Ogun State,” for his support before, during, and after the burial of the late monarch.
The Fidau prayer was attended by several dignitaries, including the Governors of Kwara, Ondo, and Ekiti States, as well as the Deputy Governors of Lagos and Oyo States, federal ministers, and other prominent figures.
