The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has once again shared his personal vision of how he believes his life on earth will end — peacefully, on a Sunday, after attending church service and enjoying his favourite meal, pounded yam.
Speaking during Day 4 of RCCG’s ongoing International Convention, themed “The Overcomers,” Pastor Adeboye addressed the subject of death with remarkable calm and conviction.
“I will die on a Sunday after attending service, eat my beloved pounded yam, and then pass on — without any illness,” he said.
The revered cleric explained that his passing would be sudden and painless, challenging the common notion that death must be preceded by prolonged suffering. He noted that he first shared this vision two years ago and is repeating it to encourage believers that, for those in Christ, death can be peaceful.
“Possess Your Possessions”: A Call to Spiritual Warfare
In a sermon titled “Possess Your Possessions,” Pastor Adeboye urged Christians to actively lay claim to their God-given blessings, stating that spiritual inheritance often requires persistence and warfare.
Drawing from the biblical story of the Israelites taking possession of the Promised Land, he emphasized:
“In many cases, you may have to fight for things that are already yours.”
He listed healing, prosperity, fruitfulness, and long life as blessings that believers must be spiritually vigilant to secure. Quoting John 10:10, he warned of the enemy’s intent to rob believers of their divine benefits:
“Your greatest friend, Jesus Christ, paid a great price for your healing. But there is a thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Long life is yours — but you must fight to live.”
On Prosperity and Spiritual Criticism
Addressing the often controversial topic of wealth and faith, Pastor Adeboye challenged the stigma surrounding successful Christians:
“The One who owns the earth and its fullness paid a terrible price so you wouldn’t live in poverty. If you choose to remain poor, you will. But don’t blame God.”
He also highlighted the criticism faced by prosperous believers:
“If a Christian prospers, they attack him. If he dies poor, they ask, ‘Where was his God?’”
Citing biblical figures like Rachel and Hannah, who overcame barrenness through persistent prayer, Adeboye encouraged believers to resist spiritual oppression in all its forms.
A Final Charge to Overcome
Concluding his message, the respected cleric invoked the story of Jacob wrestling with the angel, using it as a symbol of relentless faith and spiritual determination.
“It’s what we tolerate that torments us. Stop tolerating sickness, poverty, barrenness, or premature death. Fight to possess your possessions. It’s not just your right — it’s your responsibility, made possible through Christ’s sacrifice.”
