President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced an immediate temporary suspension of raw shea nut exports, in a decisive move to boost local processing, create jobs, and maximize value addition within Nigeria’s agro-processing sector.
The disclosure was made by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, during a press briefing at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently chairing a high-level meeting with key stakeholders to drive the swift implementation of the President’s directive.
“The temporary ban on raw shea nut exports takes effect immediately,” Kyari confirmed, stressing that the policy aligns with the administration’s agenda to strengthen local industries, promote agro-industrialization, and increase Nigeria’s share in the global shea value chain.
The decision is also expected to position Nigeria as a competitive player in the global cosmetics, pharmaceutical, and food markets, where shea-based products remain in high demand.
