Abuja (Precise Post) – The Commandant of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Commander Yabo Micah Maji, on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary General of the Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions (ASURI), Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, at his head office in Abuja.
Commander Maji said the visit was to appreciate the Secretary General’s continued support and contributions to the organization.
During the visit, the Commandant expressed the group’s gratitude for Prof. Ndubuaku’s unwavering commitment to the growth and stability of community-based security initiatives across the nation. He described the ASURI leader as a “pillar of support” whose efforts have played a vital role in enhancing public trust in the activities of the Vigilante Group.
In recognition of his outstanding support, the Commandant announced the group’s intention to honour the Secretary General by naming him a Patron of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.

“We are deeply honoured by your consistent support for the objectives of the Vigilante Group. It is only fitting that we formally recognize your efforts by making you one of our Patrons,” the Commandant said during the meeting. “We will duly communicate the date on which you will be officially decorated with the group’s uniform as a symbol of this honour.”
Commander Maji added:
“We came to show our appreciation for your support. The FCT Command, along with the six Area Councils, has elected to honour you with the position of Patron — to be our eye and to benefit from your wisdom.
We are a security organization that collaborates with other agencies like the Police, Military, and others.
We have many achievements to our credit, and we’ve handed over several cases to the government’s security agencies — and today, they are proud of us.
Our recent achievements even led to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, donating six Hilux vans to the six Area Councils. These vehicles are helping, but they are still not enough.”
In his response, Prof. Ndubuaku expressed appreciation for the gesture and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, security, and grassroots collaboration in Nigeria.
Narrating what endeared him to the VGN, the ASURI Scribe noted that he often travels across the country and is constantly worried about the state of insecurity. He said he was impressed by the excellent work being done by Vigilante members, especially in remote areas along the roads.
Prof. Ndubuaku acknowledged the challenges VGN faces in gaining full recognition and stressed the need for increased sensitization of the Nigeria Police to collaborate with the group. He reiterated his long-standing commitment to promoting the activities of vigilante groups — not only in Abuja but across communities nationwide — noting that VGN has introduced a unique and effective approach to community policing.
The visit concluded on a cordial note, with both parties pledging to deepen cooperation in efforts aimed at securing communities and strengthening institutional partnerships.
