President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will deliver a nationwide broadcast on Wednesday, October 1, to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.
The announcement was made in a statement released on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to the statement, the presidential address will be aired live at 7:00 a.m.
Titled “2025 Independence Anniversary: President Tinubu Addresses The Nation,” the statement urged all television and radio stations, as well as other electronic media platforms, to join the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) for the broadcast.
Independence Day addresses are a long-standing tradition, offering presidents a platform to review national progress, outline policy directions, highlight achievements, and reassure citizens of their administration’s commitment to unity and development.
In his maiden Independence Day broadcast in 2023, President Tinubu emphasized bold economic reforms, the removal of fuel subsidy, and intensified efforts to tackle insecurity. His 2024 address urged Nigerians to remain patient, assuring them that the sacrifices demanded by ongoing reforms would produce lasting benefits.
This year’s speech is expected to focus on the administration’s strides in economic recovery, security operations, and key infrastructure projects, while also reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since independence in 1960.
Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, gained independence from Britain on October 1, 1960. The day has since been celebrated annually with official ceremonies, parades, and presidential broadcasts reaffirming the country’s resilience and aspirations.
