Nigeria @65: Cleric Says Nigerians Deserve More Than Peanuts From Politicians

by Joy: News Admin

As Nigeria marked its 65th Independence Anniversary, Apostle Lawrence Achudume, Lead Cleric of Victory Life Bible Church International, called out the country’s leaders over poor governance and infrastructural decay despite the nation’s immense potential.

In a statement issued by the church’s media department on Wednesday, Achudume urged political leaders to connect with the real struggles of ordinary Nigerians and deliver governance that reflects the realities on the ground.

“At 65, Nigeria stands as a nation of great potential – yet the dividends of independence remain elusive for many citizens,” he lamented.

The cleric pointed out the irony of Nigerians excelling abroad in fields such as medicine, technology, and education, while back home, the nation struggles with leadership gaps, poor infrastructure, and limited opportunities.

Commends Student Loan Initiative but Warns Against Politicization

Achudume praised the Federal Government’s Student Loan Scheme, describing it as a step in the right direction to expand access to education. However, he warned against turning such initiatives into political tools.

“Often, funds or empowerment packages meant for market women and other beneficiaries never get to them because of politicization,” he cautioned.

Condemns Vote-Buying Culture

The cleric also condemned the growing culture of vote-buying, where politicians lure voters with instant noodles and petty handouts.

“Nigerians deserve better than peanuts from politicians during elections. What we need are leaders who truly understand and empathize with the struggles of the common man,” Achudume stressed.

Calls for Leadership That Matches Nigeria’s Global Potential

He emphasized the need for leadership that fosters business growth, innovation, and intellectual development while addressing grassroots challenges.

“For Nigeria to achieve her giant potential, we need leaders who are in tune with the pulse of the people and willing to build ecosystems that empower talent,” he said.

Apostle Achudume concluded by urging transformational leadership that goes beyond rhetoric and creates real impact for Nigerians at every level of society.
