Nollywood filmmaker Stanley Ontop has criticised the outcome of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) presidential election after actress and former aspirant, Rita Daniels, lost to Abubakar Yakubu, the Guild’s current National Secretary.
The election was held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, during the AGN Annual General Meeting in Benin, Edo State, where delegates voted to elect a successor to outgoing president, Emeka Rollas.
Earlier reports confirmed that Daniels, mother of actress Regina Daniels, was defeated by Yakubu in what many described as a tightly contested race.
Reacting to the result, Stanley Ontop expressed strong dissatisfaction, alleging that the process was compromised by external political influence. He claimed that “powers in Abuja” hijacked the election, insisting that Daniels would have emerged victorious if the process had been free and fair.
“I’m deeply disappointed with the AGN national election outcome. The alleged influence of a powerful individual in Abuja is concerning,” he said.
Ontop also accused some delegates of trading integrity for personal gain, lamenting that monetary inducements reportedly influenced voting decisions.
“It’s regrettable that some delegates prioritised personal gain over the association’s integrity. We hear how much they give to each state delegate… but it’s a shame,” he added, declaring Rita Daniels his “winner” regardless of the official outcome.
The AGN has not yet issued a formal response to the allegations.
