The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed a four-match suspension to Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president Samuel Eto’o following misconduct during Cameroon’s quarter-final defeat to Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
CAF confirmed the sanction in an official statement released on Thursday.
Why Eto’o Was Sanctioned
The punishment stems from Cameroon’s 2–0 loss to host nation Morocco in Rabat last Friday.
According to CAF, Eto’o was involved in unsporting behaviour after protesting several refereeing decisions during and after the match. Reports indicate that the incident occurred in the presence of CAF president Patrice Motsepe.
Tense Quarter-Final Clash
The quarter-final encounter was marked by heated moments, with confrontations involving players from both sides as emotions ran high on the pitch.
CAF disclosed that investigations are still ongoing into incidents of violent conduct recorded during matches at the tournament.
CAF Issues Strong Warning
Reaffirming its disciplinary stance, CAF stressed that misconduct by officials and players will not be tolerated at the Africa Cup of Nations.
“CAF remains committed to upholding discipline and respect for the laws of the game,” the statement said.
Morocco Advance, Cameroon Exit
Morocco’s victory sealed their place in the AFCON 2025 semi-finals, while Cameroon exited the competition at the quarter-final stage.
Further disciplinary actions may follow pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
