ABUJA (PRESICE POST) – Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged Nigerians to put national unity and shared sacrifice above division, saying these values are the foundation for the country’s ongoing renewal under President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking in his 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration message released Wednesday, Shettima said the festival’s lessons of faith, sacrifice, obedience, and compassion remain critical to Nigeria’s pursuit of stability and inclusive growth, the statement signed by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications to the Vice President said.
“This is a period of sober reflection, a season of reaching out to the indigent among us, of building bridges of brotherhood and sisterhood,” he said.
“What binds us together supersedes whatever divides us. As a nation, we must continue to strengthen the spirit of unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence for our collective progress and prosperity.”
The Vice President warned that development cannot take root where division and mistrust thrive. He called on citizens to rise above ethnic, religious, and political lines to face the country’s common challenges.
He reiterated that the Tinubu administration is focused on tackling insecurity, stabilizing the economy, creating jobs, and expanding opportunities nationwide. Shettima described the current reforms as difficult but necessary steps toward securing a more stable and prosperous future.
“Our nation is undergoing a process of renewal and transformation aimed at securing a more stable and prosperous future for generations to come. While the reforms may require patience and sacrifice, they are necessary steps toward rebuilding a stronger Nigeria,” he stated.
Shettima also appealed for continued public support for the President’s reform agenda, stressing that unity of purpose and shared sacrifice are essential to overcoming insecurity, poverty, and social dislocation. He commended the armed forces and security agencies for their sacrifices and assured citizens that the Federal Government remains committed to restoring peace and security.
