The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) internal results.
Registrar Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi announced that 58.67% of candidates secured five credits including English and Maths – a total of 804,948 candidates.
This is a 2.6% drop from 2025 when 61.27% passed. NECO attributed the drop to tougher supervision and a clampdown on malpractice centres in Niger, Kano and Enugu states.

Why The Pass Rate Dropped
NECO attributed the decline to several factors. The council noted that the reduction in malpractice cases – down 64.74% – reflects stricter supervision and a crackdown on “miracle centres” in certain states.
Prof. Wushishi also revealed that NECO conducted exams despite Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast, banditry in the Northwest, and sit-at-home orders in the Southeast.
