ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Forum of Gubernatorial Candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its support for the party’s Interim National Working Committee (INWC), urging the leadership to intensify efforts towards unifying the party and challenging the recent Court of Appeal judgment at the Supreme Court.
The forum made the commitment when its members paid a solidarity visit to the Interim National Working Committee following the appellate court’s judgment.
Speaking during the visit, Chairman of the Forum, Hon. Sunday Biggs, said the delegation was at the party’s national secretariat to interact with the leadership, express solidarity and encourage it to develop a strategic plan for sensitising and unifying members, particularly at the grassroots level.
Biggs stressed the need for the party to pursue its appeal at the Supreme Court with urgency, competence and thorough legal preparation.
He said the visit was also intended to reassure the party leadership that the gubernatorial candidates remained committed to the survival and success of the PDP.
“We believe in the PDP, we stand with the party, and we are committed to its survival and success,” he said.
Responding, the National Chairman of the Interim National Working Committee, Kabiru Turaki, SAN, welcomed the delegation and appreciated its show of solidarity, describing the support as important to the party and the sustenance of democracy.
Turaki disclosed that the party’s legal team had been briefed to commence the process of filing an appeal at the Supreme Court, expressing optimism that the apex court would ensure substantial justice.
He assured the candidates that the leadership under his watch would continue to work towards rescuing the PDP from what he described as the grip of those seeking to destroy the party.
The PDP chairman also emphasised the need for the party to reclaim its position as a credible opposition, insisting that its responsibility was to hold the ruling party accountable and provide Nigerians with an alternative leadership.
He urged members of the forum to return to their respective states and sensitise party members on the prevailing situation, while encouraging them to remain committed to the party.
The visit underscores the forum’s determination to stand with the Turaki-led interim leadership amid the lingering leadership crisis and the party’s efforts to secure judicial redress.
