Directed by Samuel Olatunji, it stars Odunlade Adekola, Bro Bouche, Ini Edo, Alexx Ekubo, Diva Gold, Chimezie Imo, Waje Iruobe, Lizzy Jay, Yvonne Jegede, and Liquorose.
The synopsis reads: A seemingly perfect beach getaway unravels into a tangled web of betrayal, hidden agendas, and emotional reckoning. When buried secrets surface and unexpected guests arrive, relationships are tested, and nothing is as it seems. By the end of the weekend, no one leaves the same.
A Weekend Fiasco starts with Tobe (Alexx Ekubo) waking up beside his wife, Nicole (Ini Edo). I almost thought I was in for a poorly put-together movie due to the poor dialogue between Tobe and Nicole in that scene. I mean, Tobe told obvious lies and gave excuses that only a daft person would believe. If I weren’t at the cinema, I would have switched to another movie due to that opening scene. However, things improved when other characters began to emerge.
One of the outstanding characters is Rekiya, portrayed by Liquorose, a slutty lady ever ready to deprive a wife of her husband, even on her wedding anniversary. Her scenes were lively, and she turned up when drama was required of her. The movie is rated 15, perhaps because of the part where she partially flaunted her boobs.
Chimezie Imo was almost perfect for his role as Emmanuel, except that he lacks the looks to make a wife dump her handsome husband, Tobe. His character was portrayed as a loving and kind man who just wanted to show Nicole the love and attention her husband was withholding from her. However, the movie ended by showing he was just a confused man who didn’t know what he wanted.
Comedy and drama were introduced into the movie by Lizzy Jay. At some point, I thought she was overdoing it, but I had to overlook that and enjoy the movie. Yvonne Jegede also added to the drama, and I enjoyed her busybody attitude, creating chaos and acting innocent.
One poor directing that was noticeable and drew reactions from people at the cinema was when Emmanuel was called to come and address an issue inside the office of a resort’s manager. When the manager called him on the phone, he said he was at the resort’s swimming pool and said he would join them in the office. As soon as the call ended, a knock was heard on the door of the office and it was him. Everyone at the cinema was like ‘So soon.’ Except that the movie’s director was trying to convey that the swimming pool was right in front of the office door, there was no way Emmanuel could have arrived at the office that quickly.
A Weekend Fiasco had a good plot that brought everything together in a climactic drama. It ended ambiguously, leaving viewers to conclude that a sequel is possible. I enjoyed the plot that led to the revelation of Tobe’s impotence. That’s good writing. I give A Weekend Fiasco a 6/10. It is recommendable.
