Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday received former Kano State governor and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, at his private residence in Abuja.
A video of the high-profile meeting, which has now gone viral on social media, shows both leaders exchanging pleasantries and engaging in a closed-door discussion.
The meeting is coming at a time when political realignments and strategic consultations have intensified ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Although details of their discussion were not made public, sources suggest it may not be unconnected to ongoing moves by political actors across party lines to build new alliances ahead of the polls.
This is coming just days after former President Jonathan expressed confidence in APC candidates contesting the Bayelsa East senatorial race in the build-up to the 2027 elections.
Jonathan made his position known at his residence in Yenagoa when a delegation led by former Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (retd), paid him a visit.
The delegation included the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, and the Bayelsa State APC Chairman, Warman Weri Ogoriba. The visit was aimed at introducing the APC candidates from Bayelsa East – Jonathan’s home zone – to the former president as a respected leader from the area.
Jonathan’s recent open association with APC figures in Bayelsa and now his meeting with Ganduje, a major northern political figure and former APC helmsman, has fueled speculations about his political direction ahead of 2027.
While Jonathan has not declared any intention to contest, his meetings with top politicians from both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and APC continue to attract national attention.
