ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, has been re-elected as Chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG), reaffirming his leadership of the continental platform aimed at strengthening Africa’s position in the global minerals value chain.
Alake’s re-election was confirmed at the 2026 Annual General Meeting of the AMSG in Riyadh, following his initial emergence as chairman at the Future Minerals Forum in 2024.
Alake, who disclosed this when he took to his X handle on Sunday, expressed gratitude to his fellow African ministers for renewing their confidence in his leadership.
The minister said the group also approved a stronger and more inclusive leadership structure that reflects Africa’s diverse regions, noting that balance and representation are critical to the credibility and effectiveness of the platform.
According to Alake, his renewed mandate will focus on deepening cooperation among African countries to ensure the continent derives tangible and sustainable value from its vast mineral resources. He stressed the need for member states to agree on basic contributions, strengthen mutual accountability, and adopt a clear budgetary framework that allows the AMSG to function efficiently.
“Without proper governance and a credible financial structure, continental collaboration cannot deliver the results Africa needs,” he said.
Alake further cautioned that minerals alone will not transform African economies, emphasizing the importance of complementary investments in infrastructure, harmonised policies, and deliberate value addition across the minerals sector.
He explained that the real challenge before African governments is to design financing and governance frameworks capable of attracting investment while promoting long-term growth, stability, and shared prosperity.
Precise Post recalls that the AMSG was established to help African mineral-producing countries coordinate strategies, strengthen bargaining power, and move beyond raw material exports toward industrialisation and inclusive economic development.
