Adamu Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
News reports that Abubakar announced his decision in a resignation letter addressed to the chairman of the PDP in Jada 1 Ward of Jada Local Government Area.
The letter indicated that his resignation takes immediate effect.
In the letter, Abubakar informed the ward leadership of his decision to step down from the party, stating that he was officially withdrawing his membership from the PDP.
“I hereby formally resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Jada 1 Ward with immediate effect,” the letter read.
The development comes amid ongoing political realignments within major parties ahead of future political contests in the country.
Despite his decision to leave the party, Abubakar expressed gratitude to the ward leadership and members of the PDP for their support over the years.
He noted that he remained appreciative of the opportunity to serve within the party structure.
“I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to have served and the support extended to me by the ward leadership and members over the years,” he wrote.
Abubakar also requested that his resignation be formally communicated to the relevant party authorities.
“Kindly accept this as my official notice and communicate the same to the appropriate authorities,” he added.
News reports that Adamu recently resigned from his position as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development in Adamawa State.
His resignation comes barely a week after Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a resignation letter dated March 2, 2026, and addressed to Governor Fintiri, Adamu said his decision was the result of deep personal reflection and careful consideration.
While describing his time in office as a privilege, Atiku’s son expressed gratitude to Fintiri for the opportunity to serve.
Adamu also appreciated the people of Adamawa State for their support during his tenure and prayed that God would continue to guide and strengthen the state.
