ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Presidential candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi has just returned from Vatican after attending the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV, saying that his recent visit marked a solemn moment of reflection rather than political fanfare, with a powerful takeaway centered not on ceremony, but on substance.
Returning from the inaugural Mass, the former Anambra state Governor emphasized that the visit was a deeply personal and moral engagement, aligning with prior experiences attending global inaugurations and official ceremonies.
Disclosing this on his X account on Monday. Obi said: “Such occasions carry profound moral and spiritual significance,” noting the importance of preserving these events from political entanglement.
“Though not part of the Papal Audience—an opportunity traditionally reserved for heads of state and accredited diplomats—Obi underscored that the true significance of the gathering lay in the content of Pope Francis’ homily.”
“The Pope’s address called for an urgent global fight against poverty and a renewed commitment to brotherhood that transcends ethnic, political, and religious divides,” he said.
He continued; “At the heart of the Pope’s message was a clear mandate: corruption must be eradicated if nations are to redirect resources toward vital needs like education, healthcare, and infrastructure.” “This should be our major concern and the lasting message we carry home from the Vatican,” the statement read.
“The visit concluded not with pageantry, but with a call for those present—and all who hold positions of influence—to return to their communities with a renewed determination to build societies rooted in justice, compassion, and genuine progress,” Obi added.
