ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – As Nigeria commemorates 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance, Hon. Muktar Tolani Shagaya, the lawmaker representing Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency in Kwara State, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to democratic principles and national development.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the 2025 Democracy Day celebrations at the National Assembly, Shagaya lauded President Tinubu’s decision to address a joint session of the legislature, describing it as a clear demonstration of his respect for democratic institutions and transparency.
“President Tinubu has proven himself to be a true democrat and a defender of our hard-earned freedom. His decision to deliver a scorecard to the legislature is a commendable act of accountability,” Shagaya said.
Responding to concerns over the wave of defections among opposition political parties, the lawmaker emphasized that such movements are driven by individual choices rather than presidential influence.
“The President does not set the rules for democracy or dictate political affiliations. Many individuals have voluntarily aligned with the progressive vision this administration offers,” he stated.
Highlighting progress made in the socio-economic sphere, Shagaya noted that while some of the current policies may seem tough, they are designed to lay a solid foundation for long-term national prosperity.
“These policies are not intended to burden the masses. At the right time, the investments being made will yield positive results that benefit every Nigerian,” he assured.
Hon. Shagaya concluded by applauding President Tinubu’s performance over the past two years and wished him continued success as he leads the country toward its developmental goals.
