Dog ticks: FG donates knapsack sprayers, insecticides to veterinary association in Edo

BENIN- Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Edo, has  distributed knapsack sprayers and insecticides to Nigeria Veterinary Medical Association, Edo chapter, to tackle ticks in dog kennels in the state.

The State Coordinator in the ministry, Dr Samuel Owoicho, made the donations during the  association’s monthly meeting held on Friday in Benin.

Owoicho stated that the donation was in line with the ministry’s mandate to control ticks among dog kennels, using knapsack sprayers and insecticides.

He stressed the need for collaboration between the ministry and the association to ensure effective control of ticks and other animal diseases.

He underscored the significance of controlling ticks, citing their impact on animal health and the livestock industry as a whole.

Owoicho reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the association in their efforts to promote animal health and welfare.

He explained that the ministry had been working closely with the association to implement various initiatives aimed at controlling animal diseases

“The ministry has also provided resources such as android phones, human and animal antirabies vaccines, and capacity building of members in the state, ” he said.

According to him, the efforts is geared towards promoting animal health, welfare and disease surveillance.

In his remarks, Dr Daniel Asemota, the association chairman, thanked the Federal Government for the effort, which would go a long way to tackling ticks in dogs kennels in the state. (NAN)
