ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – In a significant step towards transforming Nigeria’s educational landscape, the federal government on Monday, launched two groundbreaking initiatives: the Universal Basic Education (UBE) School-Based Management Committee-School Improvement Programme (SBMC-SIP) and the Teacher Professional Development (TPD) programme.

The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa who disclosed this on his X account, highlighted that these initiatives reflect the nation’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that every child has access to quality education in safe, supportive environments, aligning with the vision of His Excellency, President @officialABAT, GCFR.

He maintained that the President’s #RenewedHope Agenda places education and human capital development at the forefront of national transformation, underscoring that Nigeria’s future depends on the success of its educational system. “The President has reiterated that children must have the opportunity to learn, teachers must be empowered, and schools must serve as engines of opportunity for every Nigerian household”, Dr Alausa said.

The Minister further reminded that the SBMC-SIP and TPD programmes go beyond financial aid, aiming to place communities at the heart of school governance, ownership, and accountability. They highlight the critical truth that no education system can surpass the quality of its teachers.

To complement the TPD programme, the government is distributing Teacher Guides nationwide to support the rollout of the new curriculum in time for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Dr Alausa who called for collective action, urged State and Local Government Authorities to co-finance and sustain SBMC-led interventions, monitor project quality, and increase investments that complement federal support, especially in underserved and hard-to-reach communities.

The Minister hinted that , as part of a broader effort to enhance educational infrastructure, the Federal Government is backing the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in its 2025–2027 Bold Commitments. These include the construction of 7,200 new UBE facilities, the provision of 1.68 million classroom furniture units, renovation of 195,000 classrooms, and the installation of 22,900 boreholes and 28,000 toilets. Additionally, 14,000 schools will be fenced to improve safety, particularly for girls.

He therefore commended the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and its Executive Secretary, @AishaMGarba, for their visionary leadership in rolling out these transformative programmes.

Precise Post recalls that with these initiatives, federal government of Nigeria is taking a bold step towards securing a brighter future, one that strengthens the foundation of learning and builds the human capital necessary for a prosperous and peaceful nation.
