Abuja – The Federal Government on Monday said it had inaugurated a joint task force to check the activities of COVID-19 vaccine racketeers.

The Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Faisal Shuaib, disclosed this during the ministerial press briefing on COVID-19 on Monday in Abuja.

Shuaib, who was represented by an official of the agency, Dr Bulama Garba, said the agency, alongside security agencies, would make sure compromised health workers were apprehended.

He said, “We have launched a joint monitoring task team to arrest and check the activities of COVID-19 vaccine racketeers, including people who are attempting and compromised health workers who issue vaccination cards without giving people the vaccine.

“We have launched a team comprising of operatives of the DSS, NAFDAC and NPHCDA and we are sounding a warning to health workers. Health workers who are caught will be arrested.”

Garba also stated that the agency would continue to launch mass vaccination campaigns across the country.

He said, “We have enough vaccine to cover Nigerians. Apart from donations from countries like France, United Kingdom and the United States, the Federal Government acquired over 30 million doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. We are also planning to start mass vaccination campaigns.

“We have started in Lagos and we are planning to launch mass vaccination across other states. This will ensure that people can get vaccinated in private and public health facilities.”(Punch).
