ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –   Senator Neda Imasuen, who represents Edo South Senatorial District, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the developmental strides of Governor Monday Okpebholo as the primary motivation behind his defection.

Imasuen, who was elected to the 10th Senate on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), recently dumped the party to align with the ruling APC. His defection was formally announced on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday after a letter of resignation from the LP was read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary.

Welcoming Imasuen to the APC, Senate President Akpabio assured him that his decision to switch allegiance would not be in vain, adding that the party recognizes and rewards commitment and service.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the plenary, Senator Imasuen explained that Governor Okpebholo’s visible achievements in Edo State inspired his decision to cross over.

“To be honest with you, that’s a major reason,” Imasuen said. “Governor Okpebholo is my friend—we were elected and sworn in the same day as Senators. We collaborated closely while he was here. And having seen the kind of work he has done in Edo in such a short time as Governor, it was a strong incentive to align with him for the betterment of our people.”

The Senator emphasized that his move to the APC is rooted in his desire to more effectively represent his constituents, stating that the switch would enhance decision-making and facilitate smoother governance outcomes.

“My focus is on delivering results for the people of Edo South. It has now become easier to achieve that, being in a party where coordination and collaboration are stronger,” he added.

Imasuen’s defection adds to the political momentum within the APC in Edo State as the party positions itself for the upcoming gubernatorial election.
