ABUJA- The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Miss Ruth Otabor, who was involved in a crash on Aug. 11 near the Sports Complex of Auchi Polytechnic, Edo.

The Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, in a condolence message on Monday in Abuja, commiserated with the deceased’s family, the Students Union, and the Auchi Polytechnic community.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident, which occurred at about 10:30 a.m., involved a Dangote truck and a commercial motorcycle.

NAN reports that Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija star Phyna, was a recent graduate.

The accident resulted in severe injuries that led to the amputation of one of her limbs before her eventual death.

The FRSC boss prayed for the repose of the victim’s soul and described the crash as most regrettable despite the Corps’ ongoing efforts to ensure safer roads nationwide.

Mohammed recalled that immediately after the crash, the Corps convened a meeting with the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to address their concerns and to provide updates on FRSC’s road safety interventions.

He said that the Corps had intensified collaboration with major fleet operators, including Dangote and BUA, through structured training and recertification programmes for their drivers.

“The Corps remains committed to strengthening enforcement, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement as part of measures to avert such tragedies in the future,” he said.

Mohammed, however, said that the incident served as a sober reminder of the need for collective responsibility in road safety management.

“Once again, the FRSC extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pledges continued dedication to its mandate of safeguarding lives on Nigerian roads,” he said.(NAN)
