IBADAN – The Federal Road Safety Corps, Oyo Sector Command, has flagged-off a 3-day special enforcement operation tagged “Operation Sanity” to reduce road crashes and promote safer driving habits in the state.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Dahunsi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan on Tuesday by the Sector Public Enlightenment Officer, Chief Route Commander Busayo Oluwasola.
The FRSC boss, while flagging off the exercise on Monday, noted that the operation would be carried out simultaneously in all FRSC Commands across the state.
He added that the goal of the operation was to significantly reduce road crashes on highways in Oyo State and across Nigeria.
According to him, the operation targets major traffic violations identified as the leading causes of crashes on Nigerian roads.
“These include speeding, dangerous driving, overloading, tyre violations, drunk driving, seatbelt violations, phone use while driving, route violations, and vehicles emitting excessive smoke,” he said.
Dahunsi warned that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with existing traffic laws.
He added that the operation would combine strict enforcement with public enlightenment campaigns to promote safer driving habits among motorists.
The sector commander cautioned specifically against overloading, noting that the practice endangers passengers, accelerates road deterioration, and increases the risk of fatal crashes.
He urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid all forms of distractions, and exercise patience while on the road.
Dahunsi stressed that road safety remained a collective responsibility that required the cooperation of all road users. (NAN)
