Buba Galadima, a prominent chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has accused the Federal Government of laying the groundwork to rig the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Monday, Galadima claimed that the current administration is already engaging in questionable political tactics aimed at manipulating the next electoral process.
“What this government is planning is simple — to rig the 2027 elections,” Galadima asserted.
When pressed on how he came to this conclusion, he alleged that the government’s behavior toward opposition governors reveals its strategy. “From their actions, it’s clear. When they approach a governor and say, ‘If you don’t defect, we’ll take the power from you’ — not through votes, but by force — that tells you everything,” he said.
Galadima further argued that the government faces little criticism due to the absence of committed and principled politicians in the country. “There are no true politicians in Nigeria today — only opportunists,” he said, adding that he has never been elected into any position because he is perceived as a “bad politician” for refusing to conform to the status quo.
Turning his focus to the recent by-elections held across 13 states over the weekend, Galadima accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of conducting the elections unlawfully.
“All of these by-elections were carried out illegally by INEC,” he claimed. “According to the law, when a seat becomes vacant, INEC is obligated to organize a by-election within three months. Some of these elections were held nearly two years after the fact.”
He suggested that the results of the by-elections could be overturned if legally challenged in court. “If someone takes this up in court, those elections could be nullified — because that’s what the constitution says,” Galadima added.
