The 74-year-old ex-Hollywood filmmaker had initially been convicted in New York in 2020 of sexually assaulting Miriam Haley and raping an aspiring actress Jessica Mann.

That ruling was overturned in 2024, along with his 23-year prison sentence, after the New York court of appeals, the state’s highest court, found that he had not received a fair trial.

At a second trial in June 2025, a Manhattan jury convicted Weinstein of sexually assaulting Haley. The jury also acquitted him of assaulting former model Kaja Sokola.

A fourth New York trial concerning the alleged rape of Mann was dropped after a third trial ended in a mistrial when jurors said they were deadlocked.

Weinstein was separately convicted of rape in California in 2022 and is serving a 16-year prison sentence there. He is set to be resentenced in Los Angeles after an appeals court threw out his original sentence.

The Miramax co-founder, who has faced worsening health problems in recent years, remains in custody at Rikers Island, New York’s maximum-security prison.

The allegations against Weinstein helped fuel the #MeToo movement, which saw thousands of women publicly accuse powerful figures across business, politics and the entertainment industry of sexual misconduct.

In December 2019, Weinstein agreed to pay $25 million to settle claims brought by dozens of women who accused him of sexual misconduct.
