Former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has made a passionate call to Nigerians to take active control of their future by registering for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of upcoming elections.
This call comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) begins the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which includes an online pre-registration phase. The registration drive is part of preparations for the upcoming off-cycle elections in Anambra, Osun, and Ekiti States, as well as the 2027 general elections.
In a strongly worded message posted on his official social media platforms, titled “PVC Is the Bridge to a New Nigeria”, Obi emphasized that the power to transform the country rests in the hands of the electorate.
“The future of our nation is in your hands. Your PVC is not just a card—it’s your voice, your shield, and your most powerful weapon against injustice and failed leadership,” Obi stated.
“Those who buy votes are not philanthropists; they are investing in corruption. They enter office to loot funds meant for schools, hospitals, jobs, and infrastructure. These individuals are not leaders—they are criminals in disguise. They are no different from kidnappers or armed robbers, because the damage they cause is just as destructive,” he added.
Obi didn’t hold back in criticizing both vote buyers and those who sell their votes, warning that the latter are trading away their own future.
“If you sell your vote, you’re selling the schools your children should attend, the hospitals that should save your loved ones, and the jobs that should provide your dignity. You’re not just selling an election—you’re selling your future.”
He further challenged Nigerians to resist electoral manipulation, urging everyone to get organized and make vote rigging impossible.
“If your vote didn’t matter, they wouldn’t be trying so hard to buy it. The power to change this country is yours—don’t give it away. Let’s rise to the occasion and build the Nigeria we deserve.”
As the registration exercise kicks off, Obi called on all eligible Nigerians—particularly the youth—to register, collect, and safeguard their PVCs, and to vote with conscience when the time comes.
“Our democracy is on the line. This is a call to action. Vote for leaders with competence, character, capacity, and compassion. Don’t be intimidated, don’t be deceived, and don’t be bought. A new Nigeria begins with you.”
