Anambra South Senator-elect, Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu, has pledged to honor the legacy of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah by delivering impactful and people-focused representation at the National Assembly.
Elected under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Nwachukwu addressed journalists on Sunday, expressing gratitude for the mandate and vowing to serve with integrity and excellence.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nwachukwu emerged victorious in the Anambra South senatorial by-election, held on August 16, 2025. Prof. Frank Orjiako, the INEC Returning Officer in Nnewi, announced Nwachukwu as the winner with a total of 90,408 votes — a landslide victory over his closest rival, Chief Azuka Okwuosa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 19,847 votes.
The by-election was necessitated by the passing of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in July 2024. A total of 12 political parties contested the seat.
In his remarks, Nwachukwu extended appreciation to Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the APGA leadership, noting that their support was instrumental to his victory. He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a credible and transparent election process.
“I’m humbled by the trust our people have placed in me,” Nwachukwu stated. “This victory is not just mine; it belongs to every constituent of Anambra South. I intend to continue from where the late Sen. Ubah left off — with visionary leadership and quality representation.”
Looking ahead, the Senator-elect expressed confidence in APGA’s momentum heading into the upcoming Anambra governorship election on November 8.
“APGA is fully focused on the governorship race,” he said. “With Gov. Soludo’s track record, I believe there is no real contest.”
Nwachukwu’s win marks a pivotal moment for APGA as the party looks to consolidate power in the state and drive forward its development agenda.
