ABUJA (PRECISE POST) — Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has called on Muslims across Nigeria to uphold the virtues of love, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence as they celebrate the Islamic New Year 1448 After Hijra (AH).
In a goodwill message marking the commencement of the new Islamic calendar on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, which corresponds to the 1st of Muharram, Speaker Abbas urged the Muslim Ummah to renew their commitment to the worship of Allah and strengthen the bonds of unity among themselves and with adherents of other faiths.
The message, signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, emphasized that love and tolerance are fundamental teachings of Islam as enshrined in the Holy Quran and the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
According to the Speaker, the beginning of the Islamic New Year presents an opportunity for Muslims to reflect on their faith, deepen their devotion to God, and intensify prayers for Nigeria and its leaders.
He expressed confidence that sincere supplications offered by the faithful would contribute to the nation’s progress and stability, noting that Allah answers genuine prayers from His servants.
Abbas also stressed the importance of fostering harmony among Nigerians, regardless of religious affiliation, saying peace and unity remain essential ingredients for national development and collective prosperity.
He urged Muslims and other citizens to continue promoting mutual understanding and respect, adding that meaningful achievements can only be realized in an atmosphere of peace.
The Speaker congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the celebration of the New Islamic Year and prayed for Allah’s blessings, guidance, and protection for all Nigerians throughout the year.
He further wished Muslims a rewarding and spiritually fulfilling 1448 AH, expressing hope that the year would bring renewed hope, peace, and progress to the country.
