Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle alongside the reassignment of senior civil service officials within the state government.
Governor Yusuf, who previously indicated plans to reshuffle his cabinet 18 months after taking office, emphasized that members of his cabinet whose performance falls below statutory expectations would be replaced.
As part of the recent changes, Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi, the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, has been redeployed to the Ministry of Transport. Meanwhile, Barrister Mustapha Nuruddeen Muhammad, formerly the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Environment as Permanent Secretary.
Kwankwason Tuwita, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media, confirmed the reshuffle on Monday, September 22, 2025, via his X handle (@babarh_). He also revealed that Honorable Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, is returning to his substantive ministry after serving in an acting capacity at the Ministry of Transport.
Governor Yusuf has instructed all officials impacted by the reassignments to formally hand over their duties to the most senior officials within their respective ministries to ensure a smooth transition.
This reshuffle follows the recent appointment of six new commissioners by Governor Yusuf, whose nominations were forwarded to the Kano State House of Assembly for confirmation. The appointments came in the wake of a major cabinet reshuffle that saw five commissioners relieved of their duties.
