The suspension, which will last for six months, followed the chairman’s appearance before a special investigation committee led by Hon. Salihu Dangoje. The committee said Fawa presented false claims during the investigation.
Presenting the committee’s findings, Hon. Dangoje reported that the chairman was linked to the misappropriation of five electrical transformers valued at N2.5 million each, the awarding of a fake dam construction contract to ZBBC Construction Firm, and the illegal allocation of farmlands.
The committee recommended that the dam in Mahuta be rehabilitated, the five transformers be returned to the police, and all wrongfully allocated farmlands be revoked.
The lawmakers also directed the Vice Chairman, Hon. Ahmed Bawa Matseri, to take over the running of the council.
The Assembly said the suspension was necessary to allow further investigations and ensure accountability in the local government.
