Macklemore was dropped from the tour after expressing support for Palestinians during a performance at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium earlier this month, where he shouted “Free Palestine!” and told Palestinians they were “not forgotten”.

His removal also prompted four supporting acts — American artiste Finneas, Irish singer Aaron Rowe, Irish folk band Beoga and Danish pop act Lukas Graham — to withdraw from the ‘Loop’ tour.

In a post on his Instagram on Wednesday, the 42-year-old musician said his earnings from the tour would be distributed among six organisations working directly to support Palestinians.

“With everything that has happened over the last 48 hours, I want to bring the conversation back to where it belongs: to the Palestinian people who are still being killed, still living under military occupation, and still fighting for their freedom,” he wrote.

“I will be donating the entire $1 million of my net earnings from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour to six organisations working directly to support the Palestinian people.”

He also challenged Robert Kraft, the billionaire owner of the New England Patriots and Gillette Stadium, to match his donation.

“And I invite Robert Kraft to match my donation,” he wrote.

“Whatever we disagree about, perhaps we can agree on this: Palestinian lives are worth protecting. A Palestinian life is no less valuable than any other life on this earth.”

Sheeran had earlier denied being responsible for Macklemore’s removal from the tour.

The singer said Macklemore’s contract was terminated by Messina Touring Group, the tour’s promoter.

According to Sheeran, some venues had communicated that they would cancel their shows if Macklemore remained on the tour.

He said he held discussions with venue managers, including Kraft, but was unable to resolve the issue.
