Maidoki quits APC for ADC over Kebbi crisis

ABUJA – Sen. Garba Maidoki, representing Kebbi South Senatorial District, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The defection was announced during Tuesday’s emergency plenary through a letter read by the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Jibrin Barau, before members of the Senate.

Maidoki said his decision followed extensive consultations with constituents and was informed by unresolved internal disputes within the APC, particularly those arising from the party’s primary elections in Kebbi State.

“There is a lingering internal crisis in the APC, especially arising from the Kebbi primary elections. After consultations, I have decided to join the ADC,” he said.

In response, Barau appealed to the lawmaker to reconsider his decision and allow ongoing reconciliation efforts aimed at resolving disagreements within the party in Kebbi.

“I wish to intervene and plead with the distinguished senator to rescind his decision. There is no internal problem in APC in Kebbi,” Barau said.

The Deputy Senate President described the disagreement as a family matter that could be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding among party members and stakeholders.

However, the Senate did not adopt Barau’s reconciliation proposal, and he subsequently ruled that Maidoki’s defection stood as formally communicated to the chamber.(NAN)
