ABEOKUTA – Ogun State Muslim Council has commended National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) for its historic decision to designate Owerri as the departure point for the 2025 Hajj flight.
Secretary-General of the council, Alhaji Kamal’deen Akintunde, gave the commendation in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Thursday.
Akintunde, who described the decision as significant development, said it marked the first time in recent memory that an inaugural flight was departing from a state with a relatively smaller Muslim population.
This, according to him, is a laudable step toward promoting interfaith understanding, national unity and inclusivity.
“The Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodima, is equally deserving of commendation for his proactive support and commitment to the welfare of intending pilgrims from his state.
“His efforts are a testament to the spirit of religious tolerance and cooperation that our dear country greatly needs,” he said.
Akintunde, a former National President, National Council of Muslim Youth Organisation (NACOMYO), stated that the gesture by NAHCON was a reflection of a commendable shift in policy direction.
“It sets a positive precedent for future Hajj operations across the country,” he said. (NAN)
