ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – A high-level delegation from the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) undertook a study visit to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of El Salvador as part of its strategic efforts to enhance capabilities in digital asset monitoring and compliance.
According to the statement released on the X account, the visit was held on the margins of the El Salvador Digital Assets Summit 2025. It was led by the Director/Chief Executive Officer of the NFIU, Hafsat Abubakar Bakari accompanied by Dr. Muhammad Jiya, the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Emerging Technologies and Innovations (ET&I), and the Division Head of the Emerging Technologies Division.
As the first country in the world to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, El Salvador has rapidly emerged as a global leader in the regulation and oversight of digital asset transactions. Its FIU plays a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity of the digital asset ecosystem through rigorous analysis, regulation of Digital Asset Service Providers (DASPs), and compliance with Anti-Money Laundering, Countering the Financing of Terrorism, and Counter-Proliferation Financing (AML/CFT/CPF) standards.
During the study visit, the El Salvador FIU delivered comprehensive presentations to the NFIU delegation on the following key areas: Legal and Regulatory Framework for Financial Intelligence in Digital Assets, Investigation Techniques and Best Practices, Blockchain Intelligence for Financial Investigations, and goAML Implementation for Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs).
