ABUJA (PRECISE POST) — Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has dedicated her Silent Hero in Management Award to journalists across Nigeria, describing the honour as a recognition of the resilience, dedication and professionalism of media practitioners who continue to uphold the ideals of responsible journalism despite daunting challenges.

Speaking after receiving the award at the 8th Silent Heroes Awards Abuja 2026, Ike expressed appreciation to the organisers for the recognition, saying the award was both humbling and inspiring.
“I receive this Silent Hero in Management Award with profound gratitude, deep humility and a strong sense of responsibility,” she said.

She noted that the recognition was not merely a personal achievement but a tribute to journalists, media professionals and union members who work tirelessly behind the scenes to strengthen the profession and promote ethical journalism.

According to her, the successes recorded by the NUJ FCT Council have been made possible through teamwork, sacrifice and the collective efforts of executive members, chapel leaders, veterans of the profession and strategic partners.

Ike said the award would further inspire her to remain committed to improving the welfare of journalists, promoting capacity building, strengthening ethical journalism and fostering unity within the union.
She stressed that journalists remain custodians of truth, defenders of democracy and advocates of accountability, urging media professionals to remain committed to ethics, fairness and the public interest at a time when misinformation, insecurity and other societal challenges continue to threaten the nation.

The NUJ FCT chairman reaffirmed her resolve to create more opportunities that would enhance the professional and economic well-being of journalists while advancing responsible journalism across the country.

She dedicated the award to journalists who continue to serve with courage and professionalism despite numerous challenges and acknowledged the support of her family, mentors, colleagues and everyone who has contributed to her leadership journey.

“This recognition is not the end of the journey; rather, it is renewed motivation to contribute even more to journalism, nation-building and humanity,” she said.

Ike also commended the organisers of the Silent Heroes Awards for celebrating individuals whose contributions often go unnoticed, describing the initiative as a commendable platform that recognises selfless service, exemplary leadership and impactful contributions to society.
