ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Human rights lawyer and former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, has criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress over what he described as the “disgrace” of fabricated figures allegedly presented during a televised programme.
In a post shared on his X handle, Odinkalu accused supporters of the APC of constantly seeking to silence criticism and “de-market” allegations against Nigeria, while ignoring actions that he said damage the country’s image internationally.
Referring to events that unfolded on a programme he identified as “Prime Time TV,” the outspoken lawyer said diplomats, investors and politicians across the world who watched the broadcast would conclude that Nigerians are “not a people to be taken seriously.”
Odinkalu particularly criticised former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, alleging that the handling of the matter exposed a lack of seriousness and professionalism in public affairs.
“The vuvuzelas of APC who are always looking to exterminate #DeMarketingNigeria will not see the disgrace of fantasy figures being invented by the most powerful in the country,” he wrote.
He further lamented what he described as the trivialisation of issues he considered sacred to governance and national credibility, questioning how the country could be perceived internationally amid such controversies.
Precise Post recalls that the remarks have since sparked reactions on social media, with supporters and critics of the government debating the implications of Odinkalu’s comments on Nigeria’s political image and public accountability.
