Ondo League of Imams and Alfas get new chairman

AKURE – The League of Imams and Alfas in Ondo State has nominated the Chief Imam of Ondo Town, Sheikh Muhammad-Bashir Alimi, as the new chairman of the league in the state.

 

Shaykh Sirajudeen Batuta, Grand Mufti of Ondo State and Chairman of the selection committee, made the announcement on Thursday in Akure during the meeting of the League of Imams & Alfas.

 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Alimi succeeded the late Chairman and Grand Imam of Owo, Shaykh Ahmad Aladesawe.

 

Batuta also said the Chief Imam of Ikare, Sheikh Abbas Abubakar-Muhammad, was nominated as vice-chairman.

 

He explained that the Chief Imam of Akure, Sheikh AbdulHakkem Yayi-Akorede, also emerged as Grand Patron of the League of Imams & Alfas.

 

“A new chairman to lead the Ondo State League of Imams and Alfas has emerged, he is the Chief Imam of Ondo City, Shaykh Muhammad -Bashir Alimi

 

“The emergence of Shaykh Bashir Alimi followed due consultation with the major stakeholders across the state,” the committee chairman said.

 

Batuta, who praised the resilience and co-operation of the Chief Imam of Ikare and Chief Imam of Akure, called for mutual co-operation to develop Islam in Ondo State.

 

Earlier, the Secretary of the League and the Chief Imam of Supare-Akoko, Shaykh Abdur-Rasheed Akerele, enumerated the efforts of the selection committee, which culminated in the nominations.

 

Preparations toward the forthcoming Ramadan, among other developmental issues, were also discussed at the meeting. (NAN)
