ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading reports alleging the imposition of a traditional curfew in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command said there was no security situation warranting panic or apprehension among residents.
The police urged members of the public to disregard the rumour, describing it as a deliberate attempt to create fear, confusion and unnecessary tension within the state.
“The Command states categorically that no such curfew exists and there is no security development warranting panic or apprehension among residents,” the statement said.
The command also warned individuals and groups involved in spreading false information and fake news to desist immediately, stressing that such actions could undermine public peace and security.
According to the police, anyone found disseminating false information intended to incite panic or disrupt public order would be investigated and prosecuted in line with the law.
Residents were encouraged to remain calm, continue with their lawful activities and rely only on verified and credible sources for information.
The command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace, public safety and the protection of lives and property across Ondo State.
