ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –  A coalition of opposition political parties in Nigeria has declared plans to form a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections, vowing to resist what they described as attempts by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to impose a one-party state on the country.
The resolution was reached after what the parties termed “extensive deliberations” on the political and economic challenges facing Nigeria, which they blamed on the current administration led by Bola Tinubu.

In a communiqué issued at the end of their national summit, the opposition parties warned that Nigeria was at a critical juncture, insisting that urgent and collective action was needed to safeguard democracy and protect the interests of over 200 million citizens.
Central to their resolutions was a commitment to jointly field candidates in the 2027 elections, including plans to present a single presidential candidate to challenge the APC. The parties alleged that the ruling party was making moves to position President Tinubu as the sole viable candidate, a development they said they would strongly oppose.
“We shall resist all machinations to foist a one-party state on Nigeria and will fight for the survival of multi-party democracy,” the communiqué stated.
The coalition also raised concerns about the credibility of the electoral process, calling for the removal of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Ojo Amupitan. They accused him of bias in favour of the ruling party and warned that his continued stay in office could undermine public confidence and trigger unrest.
In addition, the parties urged the National Assembly to urgently review the Electoral Act 2026, arguing that certain provisions threaten the integrity of elections and contradict constitutional principles.
The opposition further demanded the immediate release of political figures allegedly detained or harassed over bailable offences, insisting that such actions hinder democratic participation and inclusivity.
They also rejected recently released electoral guidelines by INEC, describing them as deliberate obstacles designed to disadvantage opposition parties. As part of their demands, the coalition called for an extension of the deadline for party primaries to the end of July 2026.
Despite their grievances, the parties commended Nigerians for their resilience and support, expressing optimism that a united opposition could “rescue the nation from state capture.”
The summit also extended appreciation to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the people of Oyo State for hosting what they described as a landmark gathering of opposition forces.
