ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –   Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Sunday joined Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and residents of the state to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Oyo State’s creation at a thanksgiving service in Ibadan.

The service, held at the Cathedral of St. Peter Anglican Church, Aremo, brought together citizens from across the state to give thanks to God for five decades of shared history, development, and progress.

Obi, in his remarks released on his X handle, expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde for the opportunity to participate in the anniversary celebration, recalling their long-standing relationship and earlier engagements on governance.

He noted that at the beginning of Makinde’s administration, the governor had invited him to speak at the maiden Executive Council retreat, where they spent an entire day exchanging ideas on leadership, responsibility, and governance.

The former Anambra State governor commended Makinde for maintaining consistency in his style of governance, stressing that beyond visible infrastructure projects, the governor’s performance continues to attract positive discussions among Oyo indigenes both within and outside the state.

Obi also praised Makinde’s speech at the thanksgiving service, particularly his emphasis on building strong institutions and effective teams rather than relying solely on individuals.

According to him, such focus on continuity, systems, and shared responsibility reflects a statesmanlike vision and offers reassurance that Oyo State’s progress will be sustained beyond any single administration.
Obi further lauded the Bishop of Ibadan North, The Right Reverend Williams Oluwarotimi Aladekugbe, for delivering what he described as a timely and profound sermon, reminding worshippers that thanksgiving is more than a ritual, but a moral discipline that fosters humility, responsibility, and service to society.

He therefore urged the people of Oyo State to continue supporting the governor and to pray for divine guidance for leaders in authority to work for the common good of the state and its citizens.
