LAGOS- A 30-year-old plumber, Abiola Olayiwola, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing parts worth N6.3 million from a Toyota Prado.
Olayiwola, of Oreta St., Igbogbo, Ikorodu, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, to which he, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences on Oct. 12 at No. 1, Adedeji Adebanji St., Anthony Village, Lagos, within the Ikeja Magisterial District.
Bassey said the defendant and his accomplices conspired to vandalise a Toyota Prado VX 2024 model, with registration number KJA 318 JN, belonging to one Mr Adekunle Alarapon.
He said that the defendant stole the brain box, black door glass, car speakers, door-opening socket and part of the dashboard, all valued at N6.3 million.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene and are punishable under Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Investigating Police Officer, Insp Esther Isemede of Anthony Police Station, stated in her report that a security guard at the premises, identified as Musa, caught Olayiwola carrying a polythene bag near the vandalised vehicle in the early hours of the morning.
“When questioned, he claimed he was picking plastics around the area,” the report stated.
Isemede said that the case was reported at Anthony Police Division, under the supervision of CSP Ajakaye Ademola, where the defendant was subsequently arrested and detained for investigation.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Daodu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Nov. 21 for further hearing. (NAN)
