LAGOS – A 40-year-old woman, Kate Badmus, alleged to have defrauded her employer of N83.2 million, on Friday, was brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Badmus, the company’s Human Resources Manager who resides at 4, Alamu Salawu St., Ikotun, Lagos, is facing charges of fraud and stealing.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the offences were committed between 2023 and Feb. 9, 2026, at Duchess International Hospital, GRA, Ikeja.
Ademigbuji said that it was discovered that names of non-existent staff had been inserted on the hospital’s payroll for three years.
He added that the total amount paid to the ghost workers was N83.2 million, and investigations confirmed that the defendant was allegedly responsible for inserting the names.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Omolara Kushanu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.
