ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on February 25, 2023 general election, Atiku Abubakar has called for empowerment and recognition of women’s crucial role in nation-building has as Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day.
The former Vice President expressed profound appreciation for the resilience, hard work, and courage of women across the country, highlighting their indispensable contributions to society in homes, workplaces, and governance.
Atiku, who made the call on his verified X account on Saturday said; “Women are the backbone of our society, and their strength, determination, and achievements are immeasurable,” “Today, we celebrate them.”
However, he also voiced concerns over the continued efforts to silence women in leadership positions, citing the recent suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti as a troubling example of such suppression.
This action, Atiku argued, undermines fairness, representation, and gender inclusivity, stressing that women must be empowered to fully participate in governance rather than being stifled when they seek to lead.
As part of the International Women’s Day celebration, the Turaki Adamawa reaffirmed their commitment to advancing and protecting women’s rights in Nigeria, emphasizing that a nation can only progress when women are given the opportunity to thrive.
The message concluded with a heartfelt wish for all women on this special day: “Happy International Women’s Day.” Atiku added.
