Abuja — The Office of the President of the Senate has issued a clarification concerning a statement circulating on social media that has been attributed to Hon. Aondoaver Nyakuma, relating to an alleged appointment within a political support group known as Team Akpabio for Tinubu (TAT).
In the clarification, the Senate President’s office stated that Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, is not affiliated with and does not supervise the activities, appointments, or internal structures of any political support group operating under any name.
Senate Presidency Distances Itself from Support Groups
According to the statement, political support groups such as Team Akpabio for Tinubu are described as voluntary associations formed independently by their members. The office noted that these groups act on their own initiative in support of political leaders and do not require the approval, endorsement, or authorization of the President of the Senate.
The clarification emphasized that Senator Akpabio does not maintain operational oversight or involvement in such organisations.
No Appointment Made by Senate President
The Office further stated that Senator Akpabio has not made any appointment into any political support group and does not have knowledge of the individual referenced in the social media statement.
The clarification explained that no individual has been officially appointed by the President of the Senate into any role within Team Akpabio for Tinubu or similar groups.
Relationship with Benue State Governor
The statement also addressed references to Benue State, noting that Senator Akpabio maintains a cordial and respectful institutional relationship with the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia.
It added that there is no personal or political dispute between the Senate President and the Benue State Governor.
Senate President’s Role Described as National
The Office further clarified that Senator Akpabio does not represent Benue State in the National Assembly and does not intervene in internal political matters within the state.
As President of the Senate, his responsibilities were described as national, constitutional, and institutional in nature.

The Office of the President of the Senate urged members of the public and media organisations to exercise caution and rely on official statements when reporting issues relating to political support groups or alleged appointments.
